1. Shut off the water heater’s electricity or gas.
2. Find the valve at the bottom of the tank and
attach a hose to it.
3. Locate the water heater’s shutoff valve.
Turn it off.
4. Break the vacuum by opening the tank’s
pressure relief valve (generally located on
top of the tank).
